..."and a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the way of holiness; evil minded people shall not travel on it, but it shall be for those wayfarers who are traveling toward God. (Isaiah 35:8, adapted)

Mirages in the Desert

In the desert are many mirages.
When your soul has walked for
who knows how many days
and not seen its Beloved,

dangerous suggestions arise from nowhere.

"Come here and rest, sit down,
what is your hurry?
"

But that is not the Voice of your Lord.

It promises you shade but leaves you
to die in the heat, your carcass
food for vultures and demons.

"Come, sit and eat,"
but what looks like a gourmet dinner,
turns to sand on your plate.

Beloved Wayfarer, do not stop.
Keep walking, even at night.
Walk and let the Light in your spirit
illumine the way.
Though it seem to be a faint Light,
it is the Light of God,
and it will lead you Homeward.

Eat of the hidden Manna that appears
in the wee hours of the morning,
or deep in the dark of the night.

Even though you have lost your bearings
and all outward and inward signs of your God,
Even when your head cries,"there is no hope,"
Your heart knows the way to the
Inn of the Living Water.

Pay no heed to the mirages that tell you
to camp in the desert of Egypt.
Keep walking, one step at a time,
one foot in front of the other.
You shall soon find rest in the
arms of your Father,
in a land laden with milk and honey,
Your homeland.

I absolutely love your page! I am new to the world of blogging and new to Christ! Not that I haven't been walking with him for a while now, it's just that every moment with him is fresh. A day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day!

Praise God!

I added a link to your site from my page. I hope that's OK.

May your roots grow down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love!

Rose-Marie,

I grew up in the deserts of AZ. I've known both mirages. I've hiked on a desert plain, walking toward an illusory silvery sheen on the horison that emulates a lake of cool refeshment. I've lived the pursuit of happiness through the polish of possessions and the varieties of experience. Both left me thirsting for the real water of life. Both interpreted my wishes that ushered from real needs. Both were false translations. Just like our vaporous lives they disappear as we approach that horison of hope. Thanks for your inspiration to drink from the deep wells of Jehovah Jireh.

Thank you, i guess it is in the
desert of our vulnerability that we
get the blessed choice to follow the still ,small Voice in our heart. These are such vulnerable days for so many. Let us watch out for each other: fellow travelers in the desert!
